Charts and Charting
Andrews' Median Line and Pitchfork

There is a lot of charting software out there. For drawing Andrews' Median Line and pitchfork, I use Track ‘n Trade from Gecko software for charting. I have found the software has reliable data service and a variety of easy to use features. Gecko recently released version 5.0 which has some excellent tools for using Andrews' pitchfork and action/reaction lines. Gecko offers a 30 day free trial. Software is available for futures, stocks, and forex.

The software has a multiple line extension function that I use often for charting Median Line sets and action/reaction lines. The software also has a tool for Andrews’ pitchfork. I prefer drawing my own lines. Computer-generated pitchforks can often vary greatly depending on where the pivot points are placed.

Auto Forks RT is another software program that can be implemented on major charting platforms. The indicator automatically plots pitchforks using computer calculated swing highs and swing lows. The pitchforks advance in real-time as bars are added to the chart to form new swings. Auto Forks RT is available at Market Geometrics .

Free charts off the internet can be used for a quick analysis. Free charts can be found at FutureSource.com for futures, and Bigcharts.com for individual stocks. There are all kinds of charts available online. Some may be more cumbersome to work with than others. Search until you find what works for you.

Obviously, owning charting software and subscribing to a data service offers many more tools and conveniences. It all comes down to what you are looking for in a chart and what bells and whistles you are willing to pay for.

At times, I print charts and draw lines with a good old pencil and ruler. It is amazing how it can change your perspective as compared to computer generated lines. I highly recommend trying “the old fashioned way”, and see how it changes your perspective.
